Clock - Davies Illuminated Alarm Clock, circa 1876, walnut case with incised decoration and original factory label still mostly intact on backing, decorative turnings are positioned at the top and bottom of the canted front corner's detail, lower decorations are in the form of hollow urns mounted up on pedestals to store additional matches, pendulum can be accessed through a removable half round shaped door that is located in the front of the case, alarm bell mounted to backboard, automatic illumination and alarm are set by turning the inner brass disc in the center of the dial, the top is then set by locking the sand paper in the farthest position and setting a match at the farthest position, once the alarm rings the coiled sand paper releases which lights the match which in turn ignites the oil lamp and illuminates the room, height 13" x width 8-1/2". NOTE: While this lot will be available for preview at the auction location and maybe picked up there on auction day, no shipping is available. Arranging shipping of this property is the responsibility of the buyer. Buyer may work with any independent shipper or Jones & Horan can recommend one. Mvt: Runs, good alarm and illumination mechanism function, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall; dial with ample paint wear to surfaces as well as ample scrape from the hands, missing brass cap on winding arbor; fine black Breguet moon hands with light oxide; excellent-plus walnut case with only light surface marks; excellent glass.
